I smiled as I watched Christopher continue to drop his ball, forcing Ailne to bend over and pick it up endlessly. "Why don't you just hold on to it?" I asked.
Ailne looked up at me and merely shook her head. "He'll just cry then."
"That's because he knows you'll give him it if he whines enough." I replied, looking for Flora and Walter in the crowd. Ailne pulled on my hand that she was holding to stop me from walking forward.
"He's not the only one who whines and gets his way," Ailne said with a smile.
"True, but I whine for a completely different reason," I said, turning back to face her. "And if I didn't whine," I replied as I leaned in closer to her. "Christopher never would have been born." I leaned down and kissed her gently, but it was cut short by Flora's call.
"Ailne! Sweety!" Flora continued to call out.
I groaned in replied and Ailne merely touched my shoulder, "Be nice."
"I am being nice." I replied, taking Christopher out of her arms. He began pulling on my earring almost immediately.
"Hello Honey," Flora said, embracing Ailne before she turned to me and hugged both Christopher and myself. "And how is my little great Grandson. He's so cute!" Flora said as she pinched Christopher's cheek.
I smiled before looking at Christopher who had a blank expression on his face from Flora's pinching. Christopher looked at me and motioned to the ground.
"Gah," Christopher made a strange noise as he reached for his ball on the ground. I leaned down and sat Christopher down next to his ball as he began to play with it. "Baba."
"Edmend, how are you?" Walter asked as he put a hand on my shoulder. I stood up straight to talk to him. I continued to look down at Christopher throughout our talk.
"Edmend, where's Christopher?" Ailne suddenly asked when she looked over at me and Walter.
"He's right …" I felt my stomach drop when I looked down to find nothing next to my feet. I quickly looked around and began to yell. "Christopher!"
"Christopher!" Ailne started to yell. Flora and Walter began to look around and yell for him. "Edmend I can't find him!" Ailne began to panic.
I looked around the crowds when I caught sight of his ball in the middle of the road before I saw Christopher heading through the crowd and into the middle of the street. "There he is!" I yelled as I pushed and shoved my way through the crowd. "Christopher!" I yelled as I finally got myself through the crowd and to the side of the street. I looked to my right and saw the car speeding forward. My heart began to pound as I remembered the conversation I had with my mother the day Christopher was born.
How far would you go to save someone you love? What would you give Edmend?
Her voice echoed through my head as I ran into the street to find my way to Christopher. I heard Ailne scream when I finally reached him, yet it was too late as the car collided with my side. I felt my body flip over the car with Christopher in my arms, and time seemed to slow until I slammed into the hard tar of the road. I felt my vision fade and a pain stab severely at the side of my skull and torso. I could see Christopher crying, when suddenly Ailne came into my line of sight. They were both fine and that was all that mattered to me at the moment when I blacked out.
A quick little blurb out of a story I'm writing with characters belonging to both myself and Darknesinhiseyes. The story in Edmend's Point of View is called Undying Love. Hope you enjoy :)
